Weekly Recap:
Overall this week was a loser as the portfolio end up down 4.33% for the week or $112.68. I think today was the only day this week that the portfolio was in the green. Overall you will not see much in the way of addition to the portfolio except in the reinvestment of dividends as I have started on a Total Money Makeover to get myself out of debt and make it so I can really build wealth once I stop putting money in someone else's pocket. A deep dive into the finances and seeing a number just north of $70K for debt not including my home is just way too much. When the economy is good you just take things for granted and after seeing the blood bath in the jobs market I want to get to a point where I don't have to worry about job security they way I have the last couple of month. I have been lucky and am still employed, but after watching my company downsize our work force by 20% last month it was a real wake up call.
Portfolio Additions/Subtractions:
After waiting and waiting to get access to fractional shares and dividend reinvestment through Robinhood I finally got access this week so I was able to take the rest of the cash I had available in my account and pick up about .07354 shares of 3M. I've been eyeing 3M for a while but at around $145 a share I just wasn't able to get in until I was able to get in using fractional shares. 3M has a pretty good dividend and a long history and when I do get into investing on the side it is a company that I will be looking to pick up more shares of.
Dividends:
For the first time since starting this blog I get to report dividend earnings. It's not life changing by any means and only totals a whopping $2.67, but it is passive income that was earned for doing nothing more than owning some stocks. So let's break down the dividends:
Reality Income pays a monthly dividend with a current rate of $0.223 a share, so for owning 5 shares I was paid $1.17.
Alerian MLP ETF pays a quarterly dividend with a current rate of $0.15 a share, so for owning 10 shares I was paid $1.50.
Both of these have been set up to reinvest dividends so these dividends will go right back towards purchasing more shares in each position and while it's a small fraction of a share that these will be able to buy it means my next payment will be increased slightly if the pay out rate remains the same.
